What I Wish Every Buyer Knew Before Starting Their Search
There is nothing like the excitement of starting your home search!
Scrolling listings at night.
Sending screenshots to your friends.
Driving by houses “just to see.”
It’s fun! It’s emotional! It’s full of possibility.
After walking alongside buyers, there are a few things I genuinely wish every single one knew before they started looking so that they could feel more empowered.
Here’s what I wish you knew:
1. The First Step Isn’t Zillow — It’s Strategy
I know. It’s tempting to start online. But before we fall in love with kitchens and backyards, we need clarity. A smart home search starts with:
A pre-approval with a great lender
A monthly payment you feel comfortable with
A conversation about your goals (Are you staying 3 years? 10? Is this an investment play?)
When we start with strategy, everything else feels steady and intentional. Real estate is part strategy, part timing, part emotion. My job is to:
Protect you from overpaying
Help you write strong, smart offers
Keep you grounded when emotions run high
2. Your First Home Probably Won’t Be Your Forever Home
And that’s okay! Buying your first (or next) home is about building momentum. My parents are a beautiful example of this! They started buying real estate early in their 20’s, and they continued to roll their equity into new homes and watched that initial investment grow and grow over many years of smart moves.
Equity builds wealth.
Smart purchases build options.
Time in the market beats timing the market.
I want you thinking long-term. Real estate is one of the most powerful tools for financial growth — but only when you view it as part of a bigger plan.
3. You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
You don’t need:
20% down
Perfect credit
Every answer
You need guidance, and that’s what I’m here for. Purchasing real estate for most of us is the largest purchase of our entire lives, and that can bring a lot of concern — that concern can only be calmed by clarity.
4. Who You Work With Matters More Than You Think
This isn’t just about unlocking doors.
It’s about:
Negotiating terms
Understanding contracts
Protecting your money
Spotting red flags
Keeping you calm
The right agent isn’t just showing you homes — they’re advocating for your future. And that responsibility is something I don’t take lightly.
5. Buying a Home Should Feel Exciting — Not Stressful
Yes, there are decisions.
Yes, there’s paperwork.
Yes, there are moments of pressure.
But when you’re prepared and supported, the process feels empowering instead of overwhelming.
That’s always my goal.
